LAUNCH OF UVIMBA FINANCE LIMITED

BACKGROUND.

Uvimba Finance Limited is a product of a process of transforming the Agricultural Bank of Transkei (ABT) and the Ciskeian Agricultural Bank
(CAB) into a single entity that would provide a broad range of financial services to the rural and farming communities and/or entrepreneurs
within the Eastern Cape Province. The shift in the macro environment (1994) in South Africa rendered the statutes and the mandate that were
governing both the ABT and CAB irrelevant, hence a need to transform them into a single provincially based entity that would be able to
provide financial services to even the areas where ABT and CAB could not accede due to their respective legislative limitations. Experience
from ABT and CAB tells that traditional sector based development finance institutions are hardly self sustainable due to the high risk
involved in the financing operation, hence continued government grants and transaction costs subsidies are necessary to keep them going.
Uvimba Finance Limited is a transformed conventional entity that will diversify its financing operations in order to manage and hedge the
risk of financing and sustain itself. It will provide a variety of products that are specifically tailored and/or customised to the
specific segments of its target market.
